On 23 July 2013, Nam Theun 2 Power Company (NTPC) handed over 10 laptops and 20
desktops to Nakai District Authorities to be used in administrative works. The ceremony
held at Nakai District Office attended by Mr Liangkham PhengOuthai, Nakai District
Governor and district officials, NTPC Chief Executive Officer Mr Michel Robino, and
NTPC management.
According to Mr Liangkham, these computers will be distributed to units in the districts
which will help to smooth daily works. “I really appreciate the company for this
contribution to our district. These computers will help to improve our work efficiency.”
said Mr Liangkham. “Since Nam Theun 2 came to Nakai District, it has brought many
positive benefits to the district such as new roads, health clinics, electricity, markets, uxo
clearance, irrigation systems, technical assistance, and other things which help to boost
economic development and improve the livelihoods of the people of Nakai – especially
the resettlement villagers.” He added.
1,310 families on Nakai Plateau were relocated to resettlement villages to allow the
creation of the reservoir. With new village infrastructure built by Nam Theun 2 Power
Company (NTPC), the resettlement villages are equipped with new houses, water supply
and sanitation, roads, electricity connections, community buildings, schools, and health
centers. In addition to the new infrastructure, NTPC works closely with the Government
of Laos to strengthen local institutional capacity and implement livelihood support
programs to ensure sustainable incomes and improve living standards for resettled
villagers.
