On Wednesday morning, 9th February 2022, Nam Theun 2 management represented by Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Olivier Didry attended the handover ceremony of medical equipment to the Institut Pasteur du Laos (IPL) at the National Center for Laboratory and Epidemiology (NCLE).
Nam Theun 2 delegation was received by NCLE Director Dr. Phonepadith Sangsayalath, and IPL Deputy Director Dr. Darouny Phonekeo. This in-kind donation worth USD 27,654 aims to support the national prevention efforts of COVID-19 in Lao PDR.
The donated equipment, including throat swabs and tubs, will be used for specimen collection in order strengthen the COVID-19 testing capacities in Laos.
In 2021, Nam Theun 2 had already donated molecular extractors to the IPL which increased the testing capacity in Vientiane Capital. Molecular extractors are used to extract the nucleic acid (RNA) from samples collected.
As the operator of a hydropower facility in Khammouane province with an installed capacity of 1,080 MW, Nam Theun 2 has actively contributed in supporting social development projects especially in the fields of public health, in collaboration with the Government of Laos.
