At the time of its inception, Nam Theun 2 was the largest infrastructure project that had ever been undertaken in the Lao PDR. Combining a challenging economic landscape in the southeast Asian region, the remote nature of the project site, the rigorous study of potential social and environmental impacts, the project developers have gone through great lengths before seeing their vision for a hydropower plant materialize.
The Nam Theun 2 is committed to manage its operational risks related to its activities in terms of health & safety, hydro-safety and environmental for its staff, contactors and communities. To do so, NTPC makes the following commitments.
The Nam Theun 2 Power Company Limited (NTPC) is the company formed by the state-owned Lao Holding State Enterprise (LHSE) and private shareholders EDF Nam Theun Holding (EDF-NTH) and Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO) to build, operate and transfer the Nam Theun 2 Hydroelectric Project for the first 25 years of its operation.
The Nam Theun 2 is committed to manage its operational risks related to its activities in terms of health & safety, hydro-safety and environmental for its staff, contactors and communities. To do so, NTPC makes the following commitments.
When project construction began, one of the first tasks was to ensure that activities did not cause unaddressed problems for local people. Building the new roads, Power Station, Switchyard and transmission lines, plus Regulating Pond and Downstream Channel, caused disturbances for villagers, including loss of land. To compensate families, and offer livelihoods assistance to those most affected, Nam Theun 2 established a ‘Project Lands’ team in Gnommalat.
Nam Theun 2 is committed in “contributing to the development of Lao PDR” and chooses among its core values “Human Potential”, as we do believe that by developing Lao skills, the organization can contribute to the development of the country. Thus, Nam Theun 2 establishes a Fresh Graduate Program.
Nam Theun 2 offers a diverse range of professions varying from general Corporate Support Services (Risk Management, Finance, ICT, HR, Facility Management, Corporate Affairs and Communications) to specific Hydroelectric jobs (Electrical, Mechanical, SCADA, Civil Work, Water Management, Hydro-safety and Operation) as well as professions in an environment and science.
