Job Purpose:
The Biodiversity Officer is responsible to protect and enhance the biodiversity to preserve the existing ecosystem and density of forest coverage:
- Sustain the biodiversity protection in Nakai Nam Theun National Park to preserve Nam Theun 2 (NT2) Watershed Areas.
- Protect the forest and re-forest around NT2 industrial zones to (i) prevent the erosion, (ii) reduce air pollution that will affect to human’s health, (iii) offset environmental impacts and carbon emission of NT2 operation.
- Enhance eco-tourism in the area.
- Protection and preservation of wildlife.
- Partnership with other organizations to raise fundings and share knowledge.
Key Accountabilities/Activities:
- Ensure the implementation of the projects against annual work-plan, targets, time-plans and result indicators.
- Develop internal monitoring and operational plans that help programs’ implementation.
- Ensure timely, quality progress, and best value for money of the project’s implementation.
- Monitor field-based implementation of projects and provide guidance to the local authorities and communities.
- Ensure timely, quality progress, and financial value of the project’s implementation.
- Coordinate the payment process of the projects and keep financial data record.
- Produce monthly progress reports to CSR Team Leader and CSR Manager
- Enhance communication about Nam Theun 2 Power Company (NTPC) activities and promote a positive image to internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee Nakai Nam Theun National Park (NNT-NP) (compile data, coordinate with government authorities, filed missions, performance and progress follow-up, etc.)
- Support the Elephant and Swamp Cypress Program (preparation of steering committee meetings, data records, meetings with
- local authorities, coordinate with universities to conduct studies, etc.)
- Cooperation with the French Institute for Research and Development (operation manual, 5-year strategic plan, action plan, data compilation, working group, etc.)
Competency Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Biodiversity, or any related fields.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in biodiversity conservation, natural resources management, or a related field.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively to achieve project/company goals.
- Ability to work with multiple projects and initiatives including local authorities and communities.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, capacity to work well in a team.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Good English written and oral skills.
