Job Purpose:
The Field Hydrologist is responsible for hydro-database management, assisting in operating and maintaining the hydro-meteo stations and network, collects, controls and stores hydrological data, searches, and analyses data for weather forecasts, within standards and procedures, in order to help ensure accurate hydro-meteo data to support generation planning and flood management.
Key Accountabilities/Activities:
- Assist in the preparation and evaluation of Job Hazard and Environment Assessments (JHEA) before to completing work; assist in the supervision of contractors performing on-site operations.
- Assist in monitoring and managing Xe Bang Fai model to support water release management.
- Assist monitoring and managing Nakai Reservoir inflow forecast model to support flood management.
- Patrol the reservoir, upstream, downstream and channel to control water release conditions.
- Collect and analyse data in order to create daily, weekly and monthly weather forecasts for water management.
- Operate a network of more than 40 hydro-stations equipped with rain gates and measurement equipment for rain volume, reservoir, and water flow to reservoir.
- Operate all of the equipment installed in each station, upgrade the overall design of the stations, and add, remove, and/or relocate stations as required.
- Assist with the coordination of measurement methodologies and quality assessment with contractors and consultants (EDF).
- Maintain the hydro-meteorological network and stations, as well as all of the equipment installed in each station.
- Assist in the preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual hydrological reports.
Competency Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in civil engineering, water management, hydrology, or a related field.
- Good knowledge of hydro networks and hydro-meteorological station installation.
- Minimum of one years’ experience in water management or hydrology related to the hydropower.
- Ability to work in a distant place and coordinate with the local community.
- Ability to analyse data related to water management, flow measurement, hydro data management, and hydrology network management.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and Outlook.
- Good communication skills in English.
