On August 28, 2024, a handover ceremony for two projects was held, co-chaired by Mr. Keo Udon Boutsingkhone vice governor of Khammouane Province, and Mr. Marc Antoine Rupp, CEO of Nam Theun 2, along with the Nam Kathang Steering Committee, the Nam Kathang Secretariat Team, and relevant offices.
The first project is the expansion of the irrigation canal to increase the paddy fields in Tha Thot Village, Gnommalath District, Khammouane Province. This project took 3 months to complete with a budget of 1,326,334,059 LAK. Its objective is to maximize water use from the NT2 downstream channel to benefit the local community. It is expected to expand the paddy fields’ yields by 371 hectares, significantly supporting community development and improving livelihoods, especially agriculture.
The second project was the extension a Type B hospital in Mahaxay District. Like the first, this project also took 3 months to complete, with a budget of 408,922,452 LAK.
These two projects reflect Nam Theun 2’s ongoing commitment to improving livelihoods in the project areas while contributing to the country’s overall development.
